The interdisciplinary team comprises of four successful European academic groups, two clinical groups and four SME’s, spread across six European countries. The project partners are international leaders in their fields and have a strong background in leading European and international grants, an extensive network of interdisciplinary collaborations and a solid track of delivery of high impact research, as well as experience in knowledge transfer to industry.

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third largest in Europe. Belonging to the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness its main objective is to develop and promote research that will help bring about scientific and technological progress. The Visual Optics and Biophotonics Lab is a worldwide recognised leading research group in visual optics, working on development of novel ocular imaging technologies and ocular corrections. The group has numerous collaborations with top groups in areas ranging from optical technologies to neuroscience, and an associated unit with the largest Ophthalmology service in Madrid.

The Ocular Biomechanics Group, part of Liverpool’s School of Engineering, has a well-equipped biomechanics experimental lab with state of the art inflation, uniaxial and biaxial material testing equipment, most of which designed and manufactured in house by the Group.
National University of Ireland Galway
NUI Galway is one of Ireland’s foremost centers of academic excellence. Over 17,000 students undertake an extensive range of studies at the University, which is renowned for the quality of its graduates. Tissue Optics and Microcirculation Imaging (TOMI) Lab have developed techniques for structural and functional imaging of tissue to help understand many diseases. TOMI is a multidisciplinary multinational team of 14 members (4 female/10 male, currently) working on development of novel tissue and microcirculation imaging technologies.

The Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IPC) carries out interdisciplinary research in the field of chemistry inspired by biology, nanotechnology, medicine, pharmacy and environmental protection. The Institute has modern equipment and extensive experimental & implementation experience. The recent award of a HORIZON 2020 ERA-Chair for CREATE project has motivated the creation of the Department of Physical Chemistry of Biological Systems.

Instituto Oftalmológico Fernandez-Vega is an international monographic eye hospital founded 125 years ago. It serves 100.000 patients/year and performs 8.000 surgeries per year, on a private basis. IOFV supports two foundations: The Ophthalmology Research Foundation (Fundación de Investigación Oftalmológica) and a Charitable Foundation (Fundación Fernandez-Vega) providing eye-care services to underserved populations. The company has a strategic interest in research and development with special focus on anterior segment surgery (cornea and lens) and regenerative medicine in the eye.

Its highly skilled team of multidisciplinary researchers and engineers serves the ophthalmic industry and clinicians by supporting them with biomechanical simulations and consulting in ocular tissue biomechanics.
Oculus Optikgerate GmbH was funded over 120 years ago, and since then has developed sophisticated technology-based instrumentation for eye-care. The company has 245 employees working in its headquarters in Germany, 183 of them in research and development, and product and service. Oculus is a manufacturer of a large range of ophthalmological diagnostic instruments, with a main focus on innovative high-quality performance imaging devices for the anterior segment, with novel diagnostic possibilities.
2Eyes Vision is a spin-off of the Spanish Research Council, founded in 2015, specialised in developing miniaturized devices for the ophthalmic industry, with special emphasis in providing customized solutions for treating presbyopia. 2EyesVision has a wide experience in developing customized technologies, such as anterior segment OCT, laser ray tracing, adaptive optics, simultaneous vision, ocular microscopy and lens stretching. The company has obtained funding from the European Research Council, European Institute of Technology (EIT Health) and Spanish Government.
